The John Cochran VA medical center is a 350 bed hospital located in midtown Saint Louis, a few blocks north of SLU, which permits us to participate in didactics with the rest of the group on Mondays and Wednesdays. The VA surgical service blends general surgery, vascular, colorectal and endocrine surgery. As typical with most VAs across the country, the rotations in your 2nd, 3rdand 5th year are designed to encourage building autonomy and surgical skills. An additional benefit of the Saint Louis VA is working with our colleaguesfrom Washington University. Sharing call with them means we learn additional practice styles and operative styles.
