Saint Louis University's Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing post-master's certificate in nursing education provides an opportunity for coursework and practicum experience in nursing education.
SLU offers all four educator courses online with attention to building a learning community with a culture of sharing and support. Students who complete the post-masters certificate program will meet the eligibility requirement to sit for the National League for Nursing's CNE Exam for Nurse Educators.

Curriculum Overview
Attention to the development of the educator role is threaded through each course and culminates in the development of an educator portfolio including a personal philosophy of teaching, a research plan and examples of teaching products.
Fieldwork and Research Opportunities
A nursing practicum allows students in the certificate in nursing education program to create a unique teaching practicum experience with faculty supervision and guidance. Seminar activities are aimed at helping students make a successful transition into teaching.

Admission Requirements
The Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing adheres to the principles of a holistic admission process in which selection criteria are broad-based and linked to our University’s and school’s mission and goals. While we do consider academic metrics, we also look at applicant experiences, attributes, potential for success, and how applicants may contribute to the school’s learning environment and to the profession.
Licensure Disclosure
Students who enroll in this track meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the CNE Novice exam for Nurse Educator. Eligibility includes:
- Licensure:
- A currently active, unencumbered, registered nurse designation in the country of residence.
- Education:
- A graduate degree in nursing with major emphasis on nursing education or
- A graduate degree in nursing plus a post-master's certificate in nursing education or
- A graduate degree in nursing (M.S.N. or M.S.N.-NP) and nine or more credit hours of graduate-level education courses or
- A post baccalaureate certificate in nursing education
- Experience:
- Currently within the first three years of practice as an academic nurse educator.
Requirements for International Students
International students on F1 or J1 student visas are not eligible for admission, as the program is conducted entirely online.
