What to Expect at Transfer SLU 101

SLU 101 Transfer Orientation is your first opportunity to live life as a Billiken, and all incoming students are expected to attend. During SLU 101, you'll connect with other students, be introduced to Saint Louis University resources and get to know key spots on campus.

New transfer students starting at SLU in spring 2025 and fall 2025 can select from below SLU 101 session dates:

  • Tuesday, January 7 (one-day, virtual program)
  • Friday, May 30 (one-day, on-campus program)
  • Wednesday, July 2 (one-day, virtual program)
  • Monday, Aug. 4 (one-day, virtual program)

Your Introduction to Life at SLU


We understand that you already have experience at college, so we've designed SLU 101 Transfer Orientation specifically to meet the unique needs of transfer students. 

During SLU 101, you will: 

Because we provide a great deal of information relevant to your academic success and register you for your first semester classes, all new transfer students are expected to participate in this program. You must attend a SLU 101 session to be eligible to have an individual meeting with an academic advisor.

Registering for SLU 101

To register for SLU 101, log into mySLU (your username and password can be found in your admission packet). Click on the SLU 101 Registration icon. You must submit your enrollment deposit before registering for SLU 101. Please note it may take 48 hours or more for the system to recognize your deposit before you can select your SLU 101 session.

SLU 101 Transfer Orientation Sample Schedules

Below is a sample schedule for students, parents and guests that attend SLU 101 Transfer Orientation. Please note that there is a schedule for the in-person May 30 on-campus program; and a different schedule for the January 7, July 2, and August 4 virtual program.

In-Person Program, May 30

Students can bring up to two guests for the in-person SLU 101 program.

New transfer students are required to complete course placement tests so they are placed in the right level classes for success.

SLU 101 Transfer Orientation FAQs

Do SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program dates have limited capacity?

Unfortunately, yes. Each program has a limited capacity because we make every effort to keep sessions at a manageable to size to be able to give you individual attention and allow you get to know others through the program.

How will I know which SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program I am scheduled to attend?

After you complete and submit the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation registration through mySLU, you will select the date of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation session that you are able to attend. (For students starting in the fall semester, we have three summer SLU 101 Transfer sessions available for you to determine which one works best for you.)

Do I have to participate in all parts of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program?

Yes. The schedule identifies which parts are required for your attendance. To be eligible for an advising appointment, you must attend a SLU 101 session. You’ll be getting important information that will help you to adjust to your first semester at Saint Louis University during SLU 101. You may not think you need it now, but you will appreciate it later.

If I cannot attend any of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation programs, can I make other arrangements to complete course registration?

We expect all new transfer students to attend SLU 101 Transfer Orientation because it provides an opportunity for you to learn more about your school/college, understand advising at SLU and to learn about campus services and resources. If you cannot attend any of the sessions, please contact your admission counselor to make other arrangements to complete registration.

How do I find out when my academic advising appointment will be during SLU 101?

All students who have signed up for SLU 101 Transfer Orientation and attend a SLU 101 session will be eligible to have a meeting with an academic advisor. You will meet with an academic advisor during your SLU 101 session.

How will I find out which courses transferred and how they will be applied toward the requirements of my degree program?

During the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program you will meet with a representative from your college's academic advising office who will review your degree requirements and their policies. After you attend SLU 101, you will also meet individually with an academic advisor, who will explain to you which courses transferred and which degree requirements still to be completed. Transfer course evaluations are based on the official transcripts SLU receives. Make sure you inform the academic advisor of completed coursework or degrees not included on the list of official transfer credit.

Will I be able to get the schedule of classes I want?

Your advisor will work with you and recommend courses that are appropriate for you and your degree program. Classes may close out as registration proceeds throughout the process. Access to courses is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you cannot register for a class during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation, your advisor will share with you what options are available.

Can family members sit in on their student's advising/registration appointment?

Parents and other family members are not invited to the advising appointments. It is an important time for the students to meet with an academic advisors independently and begin developing a relationship. We recommend that parents/guests during this appointment participate in other options in the schedule or enjoy exploring the campus.

Will I have to take placement tests prior to attending SLU 101 Transfer Orientation?

Yes, course placement tests are required for all new students and you can learn more here. All of this information will help your academic advisor with your class schedule.

Will I find out my residence hall assignment during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation?

The Department of Housing and Residence Life makes the housing assignments for students living on campus. Housing representatives will be available during SLU 101 to answer your questions.

Where do I park on campus for SLU 101 Transfer Orientation?

Students and guests attending the in-person SLU 101 Transfer session (May 30) may park in Laclede Parking Garage, located at Grand Boulevard and Laclede Avenue. Parking is free during the day of your SLU 101 visit.

What should I do if I am unable to attend SLU 101 at the last minute?

Please let us know if you are unable to attend. Please contact your admission counselor if you are not able to attend/participate in the program. We appreciate any notice you can give us so that we can inform the academic advisor and others that may be expecting you.
