Off-Campus Courses and Reverse Transfer
Off-campus courses are courses taken at a university or college other than Saint Louis University (whether it be at the St. Louis campus, Madrid campus or an approved study abroad or study away location) after a student has begun their studies at Saint Louis University.
Beginning in fall 2025, SLU students are limited to nine (9) credits of off-campus coursework taken after their first semester.
- Off-campus courses taken before fall 2025 do not count toward the nine-credit-hour limit of off-campus courses.
- Courses taken at SLU-approved study abroad locations do not count toward the nine-credit-hour limit of off-campus courses.
- Exceptions for other study abroad or study away may apply. Please email registrar@slu.edu with your request.
Off-Campus Request Process
To begin the approval process to receive credit for off-campus courses send a screenshot from Transferology (see instruction below), of the off-campus course and the SLU equivalent you would like to take, to registrar@slu.edu.
Students can view previously articulated courses and/or submit a request to have a course articulated via Transferology.

- How will my courses transfer (PDF)
- My courses are not showing on Transferology (PDF)
This approval process may take two to four weeks to complete. Questions regarding the transfer course articulation procedures or the status of your transfer coursework should be directed to articulation@slu.edu.
The Office of the University Registrar will generate a Form No. 7 for you to complete via DocuSign. This form must be completed to continue the process and receive credit.
When approved, the course will be added to your student record and will appear in Degree Works with a grade of “IT” (In-Progress Transfer). Please verify in Degree Works it meets the requirement you expected.
Please request an official electronic transcript to be sent to the SLU registrar’s office at registrar@slu.edu.
Students should check that all their grades have been assigned prior to sending to SLU. Ungraded coursework cannot be applied to your academic record.
Important: Sending to the Office of Admission will delay processing. Requesting the transcript to be sent to you and then forwarding to registrar@slu.edu will not constitute an official transcript and will not be processed.
Or provide a sealed official transcript, to:

Reverse Transfer
Missouri has moved forward with a statewide policy to help more Missourians earn degrees. For more detailed information on Missouri reverse transfer, visit the Missouri Department of Higher Education website, read the FAQs below or contact SLU’s reverse transfer coordinator, Jay Haugen, at jay.haugen@slu.edu.
The process of allowing college students or former college students who have completed credits for an associate degree to receive that degree even if they have transferred to a different college or university, or dropped out of higher education altogether.
You can earn your associate degree while pursuing your bachelor's degree at Saint Louis University and possibly meet general education requirements within your SLU college or school.
You must have earned a minimum of 15 credit hours at a single two-year institution to be eligible for a reverse transfer degree. Students are not eligible for the program if they currently possess an associate degree or higher.
Saint Louis University will work with students to help send transcripts to partner two-year institutions in order to facilitate the reverse transfer process.
You will need to give us permission to share your transcripts with your two-year college. Please complete the Reverse Transfer Transcript and Record Release form and submit it to the Office of the University Registrar.
